Body swap question

I'm looking at getting an early 80s Ford Fx00 (dont know the model yet. big, 10 lug axles, probably F600/700/800). My questions concerns putting an F-series crew cab on the straight truck frame.

Will the nose of the old truck match up with the crew cab? I would like to put an 82-86 front clip on, but i'm concerned with the front axle being too wide.

Could someone with one of these old trucks give me a measurement outside to outside of the front tires? (not the overall axle, just the outside of the tread).

This should make one sweet truck if i can pull this together....

I think the cab will fit when you stick the rear maounts under it no problem.
Now may question is what engine does it have??
Yes it makes a difference. My 94 F-700 has a cab that is the same as any other 80-86 F-1-2-350 truck. How ever there is one difference. the firewall has a larger setback area for the LARGER engines. if you have a 370,429 it will work. if you have a 6.6 diesel maybeit will work.
But that is the difference.
Where the fenders meet the cab I think it looks like you could just save ALL the attachment hardware and use the nose sheet metal or glass tilt hood that came on you truck.
The entire tread of the tires on my truck looks to be outside where a normal puckup fender would be. (F-700 with 10 lug budd 22.5 wheels)

Thank you very much broncoman. I was thinking the axle would be a little wide, but the tilt nose doesn't look all that bad either.

As much as i wish it had a DT466, it is equipped with a 370. It will receive a turboed 6.9L. I was thinking that maybe i would need to tweak the firewall a little because the engine would sit higher in the narrower frame, but maybe the cab is already higher... That's how our 69/70 chevys are at the farm...

And thank you cj for measuring that for me.

I'm sure i'll be back later with more questions.

Edit: I went out and measured my 93 F150 (dont have my 86 here) and it was 6' 2" at the front fenders. A couple inches wider i could live with, a full 8" would look goofy as hell.... The 80's tilt nose is a little similar to my 86, and i've always wanted a tilt front end....

With a 370 or 6.9 diesel you will not have to tweak the firewall at aLL. the 6.9 diesel and the 370's bigger brother the 460 (same outside size) came in pickups.

Awesome. I have a truck now with a 6.9L which is going to donate its heart.

Otahyoni, how did your swap go? I'm putting a 91 extended cab on my 85 F700. Looks like the 85 has a built in body lift.
