I know I have a boost leak. Its not a matter of IF but WHERE and HOW BIG. My thought are BIG. I can drive down the freeway and have 4lbs of boost on my gauge.. I am 99% sure some is leaking from the IC Boots. My question is; is it possible or likely I've got a leak at the turbo somewhere? My limited knowledge of turbos doesnt provide me much help, but my gauge is tapped to where the AIH plug goes. Since that reads low boost and is before all of the IC boots (I think. again limited turbo know-how) does that mean its leaking from the turbo?
The AIH plug location is post IC. You could have a leak in any boot from turbo compressor outlet up to the AIH plug and down toward the intake plenums. Check all the boots and don't forget to check the boots between the spider and intake plenums.
The aih is after the CAC but boost is consistent across the system as it is a closed system, density is the variable affected by lowering temperature across the CAC, so a leak at any point will show on your gauge.
hey i donno about my idea or not because im stupid when it comes to the hole turbo stuff but lets say this boost leak is like a tube on a motorcycle or watever what if you got a squort bottel with soap and water and squort it around the boots would that help u find the leak? um so let me know haha
wate wat? (see wat i mean) ha i mean the system causes preasure right is that force preasure if so then its just like a tube u squort u see bubbels u see ur leak hahaha i donno :-)
You can make a boost leak detector, just buy a 4" PVC cap, pressure gauge, and air hose fitting, tap, seal the fittings, and install in your system... presssurize to 15-20PSI, and use the soap/water method to locate the leak. (I believe if you have the stock CCV setup you have to plug it.)
Or go to diesel site and buy one.
I doubt the turbo is leaking... (could be the clamps to the turbo tho) generally if the turbo is leaking it's oil, and you'll see it out the tail pipe.
The only place that I could possibly see the turbo leaking would be the compressor housing but if it were there I would suspect your EGT's to be on the high side as well.

If so, what do I need to fix this?
I have about 3-4 lbs of boost while driving down the freeway so your readings don't seem that abnormal to me. Most boost leaks are post turbo, (IC pipes, spider, plenum etc) however it's possible to have a leak at the compressor housing. When we bought our second PSD last fall, it had a huge leak at the turbo because all four bolts were missing. Not loose...missing, completely gone! It's amazing that nothing was damaged. The turbo was covered with soot so it must have been that way for a while. Probably why I got the truck so cheap...$10,500 but I then had to get new up-pipes and 4 turbo bolts. Good as rain now.
Trey make up a boost leak detector and use the bubble magic that slim had suggested. Many others have found leaks using this method.

Thanks. I have all the stuff I bought it a few days ago. I just need to borrow a friends compressor.
