DIY - Removing Headliner Coat Hanger Clips

Notice the width of the screwdriver in the pictures. The width is critical because it has to fit into the middle area of the hanger. If the screwdriver it too narrow, then it won't spread the metal retaining clips out far enough to be able to slide the coat hanger out. Insert the screwdriver as shown and press mildly. Once it's pressed all the way in, twist it 90 degrees to spread the metal clips shown in the last picture. After twisting it the 90 degrees, pull down on the coat hanger and it should slide out. It might take a couple of tries so keep at it. To reinstall the clip, make sure it's right side up and press it back into the hole until you hear a click.

Installing clothes hanger on F-150

I overloaded my clothes hanger on my 2008 F-150 and pulled it from headliner. I put the metal clip back in place and popped the hanger back in but with the least amount of pressure, the hanger pops back out along with the metal clip. What am I doing wrong to not allow it to stay in place with pressure applied? The headliner does not apprear to be damaged? Does the clip actually clip into the metal portion of cab under the liner? It does not appear to work this way but need some help if anyone can advise? Thanks

Maybe you broke the clip. I suggest removing another one and comparing them side by side.
