My 04 6.0 Ex has about 120K miles, and my local dealer is suggesting a Differential Flush.
I'm not really familiar with what that requires, I think it's removing the cover back there, spraying something on the gear, putting a new gasket on, and filling with differential fluid.
Is this correct? He mentioned something about silocon based differential fluid.
Is this something that can be self performed? A mechanic acquaintance of mine suggested that RTV can be used in lieu of a new gasket.
I'm on a budget these days life most, but not so much that taking care of my ex isn't a high priority.
Some say it does not need to be done unless the axle has been submerged in water. Some say you should change it every 100,000 miles.
Here is a link on how to do it if you want to do it yourself. I personally like to use (The Right Stuff) for the gaskets. Also... it isn't really a flush... just a change.
RTV silicone is what the this axle requires! There is no gasket , just make sure to use a firm RTV like grey when sealing the cover. The fluid will run you about 50.00 plus the cost of the silicone.
