Iam looking to replace the VSS . My problems are no speedO ABS light on Shifts funny and it throws the # 10 Fuse in the power distribution box. When speedO is working it gets jumpy at Higher speeds. Just got under truck it seems to be 1 bolt atop the rear pumpkin the wires feed around a little and split. Is it just one bolt pull the unit replace and splice the wires? Or is it more involved. Iam also getting it straight for FORD . Thanks in advanced for any input !
Very simple to replace, one bolt and the wiring harness unclips from it. Be sure to clean all the crap away from it before pulling it out so you don't knock crap down into the pumpkin.
I had similar trouble with mine last year, shift like crap slam and slip build a lot of heat in the tranny fast, blinking od flash on shifter but didn't blow any fuses, and replaced the VSS but didn't fix it. I would pull the battery cables to reset the computer and that would work for a while but would do it again. Ended up being the speedometer-odometer-control-module or something like that. It is built into the speedometer. I replaced the instrument cluster and hasn't happened since. Needs to be from a powerstroke though, at least that is what the dealer told me.
