Hey guys I have a 2006 F-150 with the 5.4L. I got the check engine light and the computer says catalyst defeincy bank 2. So I assume the passenger side converter is blocked. Is there anyway to either take out the cat and replace with a peice of straight pipe and bypass the o2 sensors or take the cat out of the housing and put the housing in and then bypass the o2 sensors. Help. Thanks
I'm sure Bank 2 is the driver's side 5-8. You will need to replace the cat(s) to correct the code. They usually go bad for a reason also. Bad injector, misfiring plug, etc. You can remove them to inspect them if your inclined to. They were on backorder but there are more sources now.
Summit Racing prices are: Driver side 2wd run from a #53651 Walker @ $251.99 to a #93664 Magnaflow @ $341.14; Passenger side 2wd from #50543 Walker @ $389.99 to a #47167 Magnaflow @571.95. 4wd are usually a little higher. This converters are 49 State legal but are not for sale in CA. Different cats for CA.
Cats are covered by a long warranty. 8/80 for cats.
You can't bypass the sensors. You have to buy some simulator that feeds the false info into ecu.
Why would they fail? Have you done an exhaust pressure test? At about 4 min on the second video they finally show the backpressure, and they only want 1 psi backpressure on this one.
Finally at about 4:00 they hook up the gauge. 1 psi backpressure is what they were looking for. You need to pull a sensor ahead of the cat in your case:
It has 117,000 miles. I think the cause is that I had some stuttering problems and the code said it was an ignition misfire. I changed the plugs and it ran fine. Now the cats are blocked. How much do the simulators run.
Don't assume it's a blocked cat, like others said, do a pressure test... You could just have have a defective oxygen sensor (hell there are 4 of them!). It takes quite a bit to plug a cat so look into the problem a little further before you start trying to trick the computer or go hacking away at your exaust system.

I guess even if the cats are ok and an o2 sensor is bad that would make the truck idle rough anyway. When the truck is idling it kind of shakes and sounds like the truck is starving for fuel. I don't know I'm ready to throw a match to it. Lol
If I did the back pressure check, which o2 sensor do i take out and check pressure at or do i check it at each sensor. What kind of readings should I be looking for.
