Hey Guys,
I have looked online to find the Warn hubs and they show available for a 2003 Ford Excursion. The guy at the auto shop said when he called his supplier, they said they didn't make them or couldn't get them for the Excursion. I have read that you need a an adaptor or part of some sort and that the center caps won't fit with the Warn premium hubs? What is the difference between the Premium and the regular Warn hubs. Need some advice quick, want to get them ordered today. Anyone have any experience?
Thanks!
Steve
main difference between teh standard and premium hubs is the dial that you turn is made out of brass instead of plastic.
I have both types here (premiums on my F250, standards sitting in a box) and sitting side by side that is the ONLY difference I can see.
Just tell him you want them for the same year F250, his book may not list the excursion. And I didn't need any adaptor to put them on my truck and don't think the excursion is any different.
Also can't see how they can affect the center caps as they are smaller then the original Ford ones.
I had Warn hubs put on and still makes noise. It takes driving about 5-6 miles to start, it's sort of a chirping sound and at higher speeds turns into a squealing type sound. When I am braking, it stops. Seems to be a bit worse on acceleration. The shop said the checked the brakes and the wheel bearings are tight, no movement in the wheels. Talked to the guy at the shop today and he thought it may be a bad U-joint. I had thought of that too, but I have never had one go bad so I don't know what to expect. If it is a u-joint, should I have them all replaced, I have over 140K on the Excursion. Thanks for any help.
Steve
if you still have the noise in teh front end when you unlock the hubs it is NOT a ujoint. (at least not on any of the front drive components)
sure sounding like something in the brakes tho.
One other thought, have you tried just reving the engine while sitting still? maybe a idler pulley going bad on the serp belt system (no real basis here since I can't here it but just an area that can make a squeek/squeel)

I replaced the belt, tensioner and idler pulley before I left. I will have them look at the brakes again an maybe the master cylinder.
I'm getting pretty stressed, my back is about to spasm, I'm not in good shape! If I have a problem i' m screwed.
I had a piece of a pallet skid jam up behind a backing plate once thought for sure it was wheel bearings! I'd for got all bought that thanks Jim, maybe you ran over some thing like that?
