Anyone done this yet

How about using a rear diff set up from the 71 Country Squire in a slick, how does the width match up?

I did a little research just because I'm curious, and no one else has answered. I haven't yet found the width of the rear axle in a Country Squire or LTD, but the Slick's rear axle should measure 60" from axle flange to axle flange. I know that's only half the info you need, but I hope it helps.

Alright. According to this page :Rear End Widths
The axle width of a 64-71 Ford "Full Size" (trucks were listed separate) is 61"

I will be hauling the wagon home tomorrow so I'll measure it soon.

If they are both 28 spline 9in rears, you should be able to swap the center chunk for a different ratio if that is what you are trying to achieve.

I think the mount points are different between the vehicles.

1971 LTD Country Squire could have 3 different rear axles.

1) WER 8.7 integral.

2) 9" with R/L specific 28 spline axleshafts.

3) 9" w/a 9 3/8" ring gear.

Even though classified as a 9, with a 9 3/8" ring gear, only five internal parts are the same: Housing gasket, pinion seal, (1) pinion bearing and race, pilot bearing retainer.

Everything else is different!

1965 and later Galaxie/LTD's have rear coil springs, trailing arms and a track bar.

That's a 1971 LTD/Country Squire, has the "Bunkie" Knudsen snout on it.

If it didn't have rear coils, trailing arms, track bar, it would be a '71 Torino Country Squire.

Don't think you can use a Passenger Car 9 in an F100. Too many variations.

And, if it has a 9 3/8 incher, you do not want it. Most internal parts are different, tis difficult to find replacement parts.

If it has the WER 8.7 integral, it's totally different than either 9.

ND it does have the rear coils, I got the motor running today ,it does not smoke at all, forward gear does not work, I could cut off all the mounting brackets and weld them to a 9 inch, yes? Lots of work but I think it would be a cool install! I want to build my 61 on a so called budget build.

429, It does not have the same 5 on 5.5" wheel bolt pattern. You would have to run 2 sets of wheels, no rotating.

Good point John, I hadn't thought about that glaring fact.

1971 LTD station wagon: 5 lug, 15" x 6.50" wheels on a 4.50" bolt circle.

Mr. Wilson, I know I am not the brightest bulb in the room, but I try to shed a little light.

Ahhh Sensai you forgot that I already did the Aerostar install

Plus I'll be running different size wheels and tires left to right for turning left mostly...lol
On a serious note I want a street truck look so I'll have wider tires on the rear!

Is that the same bolt pattern as the Aerostar?
