Gary, et all, I have a 1980 400cid, mechanical choke, thermostatic air cleaner, everthing is hooked up and working however the heat shroud around the exhaust manifold is missing. Ive looked everywhere (except junk yard) and cant find one. Any leads as to where i can get one?
They rust out pretty quickly, so I doubt many are left usable. But, someone has done a bit of a how-to on making one. Maybe you can search for it, or maybe he'll chime in.

Are you talking about 9A603 in this diagram? Presumably, you are.
Notice there are two halves - inner & outer (the label points to both).
It looks like there is ONE of the inner available NOS, this would come from Dennis Carpenter (Tel 704-786-8139) and would cost your left nut I'd imagine.
Inner: D7TZ-9A603-A SHROUD - CARB AIR CLEANER Fits 1980/82 F250/350 w/351M & 400 engine; MSRP: $29.33 Dealer net cost: $17.60
Outer: E0TZ-9A603-B SHROUD (CARBURETOR AIR CLEANER AIR DUCT) Fits 1980/82 E-F150/350 & Bronco w/351M & 400 engine; MSRP $25.62 Dealer net cost: $15.37

IOW, junk yard is gonna be your best bet......
Yes 9A603 is what I'm looking for. Thanks for the parts numbers, I might just go ahead and order them from ford. BTW when I rememer to do so I will post picks of the one I made. For now let's just say a Budweiser can with the top and bottom cut out fit perfectly on the original snorkel!
Very nice redneck engineering . However, when it rattles off and the whole freakish contraption gets sucked into the cooling fan and belts as you're going down the highway, its gonna make a disturbing racket!
I might just go ahead and order them from ford. Obsolete!
Whenever you see MSRP followed by Dealer net cost .. the part is obsolete and...you are reading one of my posts.
I typed these part numbers originally, Chris took them from another post I typed.
Every time a part is obsolete and I list sources for same, I type both prices, so whoever is looking for them will be aware, because...
Obsolete parts prices can vary wildly from one source to another.
Here's an update on the two little charmers:
D7TZ-9A603-A / Obsolete
GREEN SALES CO. in Cincinnati OH has 1 = 800-543-4959.
CARPENTER NOS OBSOLETE PARTS in Concord NC has 1 = 800-476-9653.

Resurrecting this old thread because my choke heater assembly crumbled to dust when I was reinstalling my carb. It appears this is no longer available, and perhaps not necessary if you have an electric choke. I have the electric choke so was just planning to block off the inlet/outlet tubes in the plate and reattach to the intake manifold. Does this make sense?
Maybe, maybe not. There are electric chokes and there are electric assist chokes. And the latter only turn the electric part on above something like 64 degrees. Read this: Chokes - ???Gary's Garagemahal and then tell us what you have.

Ah, I see. My heat tube coil is routed through the intake manifold, not from the exhaust manifold. So does that mean I have a hot air w/ electric assist? Is it possible to close off the intake plate, and install the aftermarket full hot air system in the exhaust manifold?

This hot air assembly for the aircleaner doesn't have anything to do with the choke assembly and what the choke does. The choke richens the mixture when the engine is cold, and also increases the idle speed. Neither one of those functions will help you when the carb starts freezing up in cold damp weather.
I see you live in Mn. If you are going to drive this truck in the winter, you will have to get this hot air system going again to have a decent driving truck in cold weather.

We may be talking cross-purposes. How 'bout posting a picture or two of what you are asking about? I ask that because I've not seen a heat tube through the intake manifold on a Ford. GM's had the choke in a well on the intake, but I've not seen it on Ford's. But, it is possible as several of the engines had exhaust heat in the intake manifold.
As for an aftermarket hot air system, can you provide a pic or a link to that? I haven't seen one of those, but you may be onto something.
