Heavily used and borderline abused 4X4 Crew Cab with 7.3/4R100 4.10 L.S. that recently began exhibiting a problem going from reverse into drive. Truck lags and revs before engaging but after ten seconds the trans engages and we're off with absolutely no hint of a problem for hundreds of miles. Random and not seemingly effected by temp., load, or speed, it acts up without any precurser. Trans has been flushed three times in its life, ( bought the truck with 11 miles on it ), with the last service done about 7500 miles ago. Truck has 98,000 miles on it and has been absolutely trouble free, it has surpassed every expectation and even managed to turn a few Chevy friends of mine into Ford owners. ( Obama helped a little too ). Hooked up the scanner which revealed no codes and dropped the pan at the Ford dealer which was spotless. No strange noises and no fluid leaks...I'm at a loss. Dealer wants to R&R to diagnose but the tech seems as baffled as I am. He admits its a strange situation. Oh, and he drove it for four days and never duplicated the concern. Help a guy on a tight budget PLEASE.
Oops, thank-you on correcting my mistake. I am in California and the scanner we used was a Motorcraft scanner but I'm not sure of the Model #. We did it at the Ford dealer.
