Question Which is Safest

I have to pull a 2000lb Trailer loaded with a 2600lb vehicle from California to Nevada. I will be traveling on I-80 over the Sierra's.

I have a choice between a 2002 F-250 Super Duty 2WD and a 2004 Eddie Bauer Expedition 4WD to make the trip.

Both vehicles have the Factory Optional Towing Package and both have the 5.4 Engine.

Safety is a concern and I would like to know which vehicle would be the best from that standpoint.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

The F250 would be my choice as it has the better springs and brakes. Expedition is basically a F150 with the campershell welded on for comparison purposes. The F250 will have more towing ability as well since it is 2WD and a heavier truck chassis.

I agree with Archion- The F250 is a 3/4 ton vehicle with a longer wheelbase while the Expedition is a 1/2 ton vehicle...
Go with the F250

the 250. BTW I have towed a car with a 2004 F150 with the 4.6 cross country and it did just fine as well.

I have towed a car with my 01 4.6 150 from Waco to Phoenix. It did ok, but go with the 250, its made more for towing and simply safer.

Either would be just fine. 4,600 lbs is nothing to pull for either of those vehicles. The Expy will give you a more comfy ride with firmer seats and better creature comforts.

I would choose the pickup myself. The 4WD limits the tow capacity of the vehicle. But also think about the engine and the vehicle length. Which one has the most horsepower to take you up and over the mountain and the longer vehicle will give you better control. The Expo is big enough to tow that weight also. Just which ever one you are most comfortable with.

tow

take the one with trailer brakes first, if you dont have trailer brakes then take the f250 as long as it just a pickup with no heavy box or loaded down.
