I am replacing bushing on my 05 EX. I have a leaf spring question. Do I need to use a jack to support the spring in either direction, and is there an order in which to remove the bolts? Upper or lower bolts first. I have never done this and feel very uncomfortable with the pressure on the bolt.
When replacing the springs I supported the X on jack stands under frame rail, and used a jack under the axle to lift up or down as needed. Once in that position there is really no flex in the spring to worry about as they are free hanging. The top or bottom bolt doesn't matter, get at the easier one,(the top one) then in a vise to get the bottom one off.
X is slang for Excursion. Read it this way "I supported the Excursion on jack stands under frame rail, and used a jack under the axle"
You support the truck frame at a height that takes the weight off the axle. (Tires are in the air) so there is no load on the leaf spring before you begin removal and support the axle with a floor jack. Be sure to use jack stands on the frame, not a floor jack for the truck frame since you are supporting 4K plus pounds.
