hey im new here and i just bought a 99 eddie bauer expedition. its a 5.4 with 4 wheel drive. i was just wondering if anyone has an idea if i can run true dual 3" flowmasters on it, or if i would have to get 1 muffler with 2 pipes running out of it. and id like to know which series would be the loudest, im thinking about the 40 series but tell me what u guys think. thanks
i have a 98 and the shop put on a big system it is better to use a single exhausts..they put on a 3" exhausts with the maifold pipes back with a striaght through magnaflow muffler look through it you see the other side...and they put on a stainless steel 4" tip..wow alot more power ....this is called a cat back system
polaco, there are numerous threads on this on this site there is just about every combination imaginable on the Expys in here. From $1000 Basani, to Glass packs! I personally have a Flowmaster Single in Dual out on mine. It sounds great and looks good too! Do a search on Exhaust in this forum and you will see a bunch !
I posted the same question a few weeks back, ended up going with the FlowMaster Force II cat back system. I wished I could tell you how it sounds, but today was my first day off after working 10 days straight. Needless to say, the pipes are setting on the garage floor! If any one wants a picture of the flowmasters before install, let me know.
It took me 2.5 hours to install with hand tools.
I remember one of the guys saying he drove with the windows down to hear the sound, trust me, you can hear it with the windows up, airconditioning going, and radio blasting.
This set up is significantly louder the stock.
As you will notice in the picures, the stock muffler is giant compared to the FlowMaster!
I just hope my wife does not object to the loud sound, the expy is our family vehical.
Id Love to do the same.. WOndering about the trade off with noise though, as already mentioned, my Fiance drives mine most of the time, and the last three wekends in a row, we have been gone on trip that totaled about 3100 miles, wondering how it will sound on the I-state after about 5 hours of driving.. I like the quiet sound of My stock setup, but would realy love to squeeze a bit more power out of the 4.6..
For all you guys that are worried about the noise................ Don't worry. Your "Better" half wont complain. The sound is a more throaty sound than stock. IT IS NOT DRAGSTER LOUD. You notice a slight sound increase when under normal driving conditions. When you mash the pedal down you can really hear it. But since your better halfs do not MASH the pedal They really wont hear that much of a difference.
My "better half" Is barely 5' and barely 100 pounds, Swear she drives this beast like its a nascar series.. We ALMOST bought a 2002 Excursion, but bought the Expy cause it was an incredible deal.. SO Does anyone have an aftermarket exhaust on a 4.6?
Curious, does it help?
2000 EXPY, hows the K&N FIlter work?
I just had a flowmaster II series 50 + 3" pipe installed on Monday without my wife's knowledge. She drives our expy as the family truckster 90% of the time. She has not noticed or complained. I noticed the throatiness and additional power immediately, it's great! Next is an FIPK from the FTE store...
