I looked at the CPS last night, it is gray. I do have a spare black one that I picked up from Clay awhile back. I'm not opposed to swapping them out and keeping the gray one as as emergency spare.

For the most part the truck runs great, it was just last weekend both going and coming from a camping cruising at 40 to 45mph it started missing.

Thanks for the link on the MAP sensor and all the input.

If you've got a black one from clay, I'd sure put it in. Pete (pjwoolw) put one in in replacement of the light gray one he had and said it runs a lot better.

Thanks Darin,

I replaced it tonight. If I get a chance in the next couple of days I will do another test drive.

OK same thing, and it is under a load that it happens. Say that I am cruising at 45 to 50 mph in OD at about 1400 RPM on a slight hill. If I apply a little throttle to rise the speed without kicking it out of OD it starts to miss if I hold it at that throttle position for a bit it gets worse. I can look in the mirror and see a small amount of black smoke kind of puffy looking from the exhaust. If I kick it a little more and drop it out of OD I can still feel the miss for a bit but it gradually clears.

The only code that was set was, "P0236 Turbo Boost Sensor A Circuit Performance" and that was for the complete trip, 500 miles and 3 mountain passes no idea when it was set.

When it is missing the EGT was at 800°, the ICP Pressure was around 2300 (I think) and the ICP duty cycle was around 37%, RPM was 1400 to 1600.

I'm going to bump you up if nothing else, have you tried to do the same thing with the map unplugged? If you get a chance, can't hurt to try.

Almost seems like you're lugging it at those rpms going up a hill and that is maybe contributing to the miss. Wonder if you're loading it up with fuel and can't burn it off quick enough at those low rpms causing the black smoke also? If I get below 2k on a hill, I kick it out of OD.

Havent had a ford do other models have. It almost sounds like a cracked tip on an injector.

Well maybe I guess, if that is possible. Seems like it is just normal everyday driving though, doesn't seem like should happen.

I would like to have a break-out box to do some testing with, turn off an injector one at a time.

I hear ya Tim, what I said seems more like an older gas motor deal, but I'm just trying to think of ideas. Bump up to the top for more help if we can get it here.

My truck does the same thing on occasion... I just assumed it was because I had a bad injector and figured it would go away when I get my injectors. I had some burnt UVCH plugs and replaced them as well as the gasket but the intermittent miss under load stayed there. the dead miss it developed when the harness burnt, went away when I changed the plugs though... I did injector O rings while it was apart to eliminate that as well. another thing that leads me to believe injector in my case anyway is... if I run some kind of lubricant/additive in my fuel the miss never happens. but if I dont use it the miss comes and goes. maybe try some injector cleaner/lubricator and see if it helps. If it does then you know you need to save injector money like me...

It is sounding more and more like it may be an injector but finding the culprit is going to be the hard part.

I talked with Jim at Rosswood his thought was that I use a break-out box to isolate which cylinder is misfiring.

Any ideas on where I can rent one, use one or even make one?

I would take it a set farther then 62uni4x4 suggested. Drain your fuel bowl, then fill it up with dieselclean and run it. It cured my problem once.

Ive been running dieselclean in my rig and that seems to do the most good. I havent tried it full strength in the fuel bowl though. good idea old bird I will have to try that out.

There was a debate awhile back on this, some say its hard on the injectors and some said its OK. I personally think once in awhile is OK but I wouldn't make a habit of it.
