I'm 99% positive he wants E0TZ-1040860-A (40860) in the diagram.

Sliding window Latch assymbly. fits 1973-1996 sliding rear windows.

Notorious for breaking in half as described. It says right in the owners manual not to use the latch as a handle to open the window. But a lot of people do, and snap...

And a little off topic, but I thought it would be good to mention...

I see another error in the book too . It says that 42436 and 42430 are 1990-1991 only, by the % sign and text.

Well those translate into part numbers: D7TZ-1042436-A and D7TZ-1042430-A and those fit 1977 to 1991. That is the chrome trim that fits inside the rear window seal. So yet another error. They most likely used the picture diagram out of the 1990/+ book for the 1980/1989 reprint. I say that because what is a 1990-1991 reference doing in the 1980-1989 book anyway?

If that's the case, our sponsor Ed Olson www.partsguyed.com can allegedly get this.... MSRP $9.86 he'll sell it for $7.10.

I say "allegedly" because I'm not real sure how to use that site; I've sent people there based upon the search results but people have told me he (Ed) doesn't, in fact, have <whatever>.

I don't like doing that, makes me look bad.

I just checked around some more, it looks like LOTS of Ford dealers still have (or can get) this part, so going to a local Ford dealer may be an option.

If using Ed's site, use E-letter-oh-TZ and not numeral zero....</whatever>

actually it looks like it would be the little plastic piece that would screw into the part 4086 of the right hand side piece wic
h would latch onto the left
hand side of part 4086 ,if that makes any sense.

The latch pictured 40860 is two pieces.

One side screws into the window frame on the left side window, and the other side screws into the window frame on the right side window. The two pieces latch together. There is a rectangular piece that hinges on the left hand side and slips over and grabs the smaller piece on the right. The rectangular piece is most likely missing or broke off on the left.

The part number is E0TZ-1040860-A for this plastic latch. This latches purpose is to lock the rear slider window.

I'm sorry but that's wrong, and who told you that was wrong.

The % mark on the page above refferences the text: Used 1990-1991 only.

EDIT for more information.

The % mark means different things on different pages.

Just like the square tells you to refference this part in the exterior moulding section. This is where I found the part numbers. D7TZ-1042436-A and D7TZ-1042430-A. Both of these moulding pieces are obsolete by the way, and no new number was issued. Just bought one of them a couple years ago.

And the # mark and the circle mark refferences you to this text: Serviced only in assymbly group 42006. In other words if you need those two pieces, you need to buy the whole window section 42006.

I've discovered that Ed's site (www.partsguyed.com) offers a pretty convenient feature concerning this in that, if you input a part number that has been replaced, the new part number is substituted in the search results.

At least it sometimes seems to do that, that's pretty convenient.

Hey thanks for that information CTUBUTIS!

I looked up D7TZ-1042430-A, and Ed's site says he can still get it, but it also says it's discontinued.

Just get a hinged metal window latch from the C.R. Laurence catalog.
I got sick of replacing that stupid piece of plastic.
Sorry i don't remember their part # but it fit perfectly.
IIRC, You need to know the center-to-center distance of the two screw holes.

After looking I'm pretty sure I used the model DVL-2
DVL2 - CRL Replacement Metal Backslider Latch
This latch has been going strong for over ten years.
It doesn't get brittle in the cold or soft in the heat.

If you have a glass store nearby ask if they order from C.R. Laurence.
They could probably include one in their order for you and you could save the shipping and handling.
