There's a sticky at the top of the forum here about this. You'll need to take your truck to the dealer to get it flashed to work with the truck, if I recall correctly. Here's a link:

You have to take it to the dealer to finish the project. About 5 minutes with the computer and it will work just fine.

Sorry....my bad. I was in a hurry yesterday and didn't notice the "aftermarket" part of your post. That being the case, I'm not sure why it wouldn't work. I know of no reason then, that the dealer would have to flash it. Is the controller not functioning or do you just not have power to it?

I have power to it but it does not put power to brakes or register on digital readout I added the factory 7 prong plug because my truck only came with the 4prong but all 7 patterns should be standard the brakes on the trailer work with my 2006 just fine.

Did you connect it to the rewired under the dash?

good question,

there where a few things the OP said that concern me like where did you hook up the 7 pin plug to? and that you didn't have a tow pkg from factory so how sure are you all the wiring is there, did you check it?

What did you connect the controller to under the dash. I bought an aftermarket controller, but itonly had 4 wires coming out and the connection under the dash had 7. I went to ford and bought the in dash one and installed and then had it flashed. Does your truck have the tow/haul mode?

yes my truck has the tow haul mode but I can't put in a factory in dash unit because my truck did not come with the factory tow package I added the hitch and the 7/4 prong plug then bought aftermarket controler with the plug in for the 2011 f150 so I can understand whats wrong

Catch me up a sec. First can you tell me what controller you bought? I know it doesn't make any difference but I need to be on the same page you are.

Dies your truck have the plug under the dash for a brake controller? It will be a little white connector with seven wires going into it. I'm just thinking that even though you didn't get a towing package the wiring might ne there.
