Trailer light connection

On my '92, I have a question about the wiring for the trailer hook-up. When I hook up the trailer lights, and use the blinkers, they blink really fast and are very dim. When there is no trailer attached, they work just fine. Is this a fuse problem? If so which fuse, the blinkers? Thanks for any advice.

Replace the flasher with a heavy duty, or better yet, an electronic one. I put an electronic flasher in mine and it works great. Light blink the same speed with or without a trailer, and they're supposed to last longer than the standard thermal ones.

Should be $8 - $10 tops.

He is talking about the flasher itself, it’s a silver box or round (can’t remember) device in the fuse block.
The reason the lights flash like crazy with the trailer lights is....
First I have to explain how it works, the flasher has a bimetallic strip in it, when this heats up from the resistance in the light circuit the bimetallic strip moves and turns the lights off, and keeps on repeating this cycle to blink the lights.
When you add on more lights there is more resistance causing it to heat up faster, thus causing it to blink faster.
Got it?
Mrwizard is right, the best flasher to use the electronic one.
Any more Q's?

My '95 was round, so I would assume the '92 would be the same. Best way to do it is to go to the store and buy one, then look in the fuse block under the dash and replace the only thing that looks like it. Pretty sure it will only fit in one spot and in only one direction.

Actually, there's LESS resistance, causing more current to flow, which heats the element faster.

It's round, and there's one on the bottom of the dash fuse block for the turn signals and another on the top for the hazards directly in line with the lower one. The electronic ones are slightly longer, so your fuse cover may not fit over it.
