Hello To the Texas Chapter

Hello all,

My name is Jason.

I am the proud owner of a '98 Expedition 4.6 2wd with, as of 8:30 PM last night, 200,006 miles.
I plan to be buying a F250 4x4 diesel in the next few months. I joined TFE to read/learn about the diesels because I have never owned a "real" truck.

I welcome opinions about what engine and/or year is better as well as what to avoid.

Thank you in advance.

Hello Jason, nice to meet you. Welcome to the Tx Chapter!

If it were me I would look for a 06-07 truck with the 6.0 diesel. I know they have a bad rep, but they are not anywhere near as bad as there reputation is. Most of the problems with them are from people not taking care of them right, and poor diagnosing when there is a problem. I love this motor myself, and couldn't dream of owning anything else. I would stay away from the 6.4 as there more problems with them than the 6.0, and that's also when they came out with the DPF system. If you do a search in the 6.0 forum for a thread titled "buying a used 6.0" you will find pelnty of info on what to look for when shoping. Also take some time to go thru the tech folder in that section. Lots of good info in there.
Again welcome to the TX chapter of FTE. Some of the other guys will be on later with a warm welcome and there opion on a truck.
