How much money?

1996 4.0 I need to have the heads redone because of a burn`t valve what kind of money and I looking at to have this done?

I'm guessing here, but if you bring it to a shop and say "fix it" you will probably be looking between $1,000 and $1,500.

If you do the R&R work yourself you are probably be looking at paying the machine shop $200 for labor. Parts should only be gaskets, head bolts and the valve, so I guess around $200 and another $100 for the "oh while you are here" stuff.

I looked up the head gasket kit with the bolts, and the above was based on the higher priced set if you went with the closeout stuff, cut the price in half.


Somewhere in between is to hire the high school kid, and let the kid do the work as you supervise.

It has been a long time since I bought a valve job, so this is just my guess. Further opinions should be solicited.

I would do a new head vs a rebuild if you can get one..They crack. IMO
