i have recently come into a little bit of money and am looking for aftermarket products that are worth the money for my 4.9L i want to hear anything anybody has to say
what year? tranny? little more info could be more helpful for us to help u. but first go for a good exhaust. 2.5" single seems to be the sweet spot for these and a good high performance muffler (ur choice). advancing the timing and k&ns are also a good start. dont forget a good tune up to get back the lost power from over time. next would be a different cam and if u wanna go all the way a ported n polished head.
I you are running a carbed 300 go to headers with a similar exhaust mentioned above. If its an EFI do the same, try a throttle body spacer or higher CFM throttle body or both. How about an ignition kit Jacobs makes a real nice one and really makes a difference in fuel economy, and overall engine performance. Knn air filters make a difference. It really depends on how much you have to spend and how far you want to go as far as upgrades go.
Could you tell me a little more about the Jacobs ignition kit... what is it ...
where do you find it..
is it a true bolt on...
how much...?
do you have one on your '84?
I am not running one on my 84 (yet),currently I am running a high energy Accel coil, 8.5 mm wires, Autolite Platinum plugs, and an Accel cap. I made a noticable difference in power and economy. I know people who have installed the Jacobs Kit, it plugs right into the stock wiring harnass. I really makes a difference. I have seen the Jacobs kit in JC Whitney and I'm sure they have a website, I have not yet looked into it in depth. But I do plan to install one on my truck.
I forgot to mention the Jacobs system boosts your spark energy, making a hotter stronger spark. Thus increasing efficiency of fuel burning and increases horsepower and throttle response.
'just found the Jacobs in my old Jegs cat. Which one did you go with? There are several to choose from. 'Sounds like they MAY require some (newer model) computer input. Do you know if there is one specifically for the "old horses" ('82 Bronco) with just a two wire coil hookup? The MSD 6A sounds like another option - same Q's - anybody running one on an '82 or earlier?
Will I still be getting the multi-spark extended duration?
Do a search on MSD in this forum. I have a 6A and the 2F coil on my 79 with the DII dizzy. It works great. Install wasn't that bad and overall performance is better. I wouldn't say that there was some huge difference in performance. The most notable change swapping in the MSD unit was much hotter starts and a "smoother rev." Like all improvements, it's just a component of the whole system - it will capitalize on other changes like intake and exhaust. I don't know much about Jacob's, but MSD has quite an extensive system of ignition add-ons other than just the box and coil. Keep in mind that it runs off 12V, so a minor problem with your regulator or alternator will kill the ignition a lot faster than the stock setup - a trade off I guess.
