Question Auto-Rx for Transmissions - Does it Work?

Surfing the net I occasionally run across ads for Auto-Rx for Transmissions:

http://www.auto-rx.net/index.html

What do you guys think about it? Does it work? Are there any negative side effects to consider?

Thanks for any feedback.

NO chemical additive "works." The best of them merely apply a band-aid to the problem and allow you to get a few more miles before the inevitable rebuild, the worst of them actually cause more harm than they allegedly prevent. The best things you can do for improving automatic tranny life are:
1) an additional cooler
2) an external filter

StrangeRanger,

I agree with you on the additive thing, and also your tips for extending tranny life. What I am wondering, though, is whether this Auto-Rx actually does clean up the tranny the way it is advertised? It's not so much an additive as it is a cleaning solution (or so they say). Since ultimately it comes out when you change your tranny fluid after driving 1000-1500 miles, it seems like more of a maintenance-type thing.

Viewed in that light, what do you think?

I would try to procure an MSDS on this stuff. That should give you an idea of what you're dealing with. My guess is that it may be some synthetic ATF with an aggressive conditioning/detergent package added to it. Seeing as how transmissions are fairly sensitive, I don't think it's too terribly harsh.

For what it's worth, I'm a huge fan of synthetic ATF (Mobil 1 is my choice; Redline and Amsoil also have it). Most people feel that you don't need synthetic oiils, but I can justify paying $6 per quart once a year for the peace of mind.
