I have saw the thread before, but can not find it. I'm trying to add the OEM Ford harness in the truck bed for a gooseneck. Are there plugs under the bed so I can just hook up this harness without and aftermarket mods? If so where are the plugs. Also, can somebody measure some distances or take a few pictures of where the harness is located.
On another note, would you suggest a B&W turnover ball hitch, or get the OEM setup?
Just call partsguyed and get the factory harness! (sorry couldn't help myself) Seriously the factory harness is cheaper than most aftermarket and has everything that you need. There are 2 plugs along the left frame rail that have dummy caps in them. Simply route the wiring, plug into the existing plugs and secure to truck body/frame via the christmas tree fasteners that are already in the correct spots along the harness.
I'm not sure what you need measurements for, you just cut the hole in the bed at a location that suits your needs. The factory location is within about 10 inches of the bed corner. Cutting the goofy shaped hole for the factory plug is the worst part of the job.
If you want both gooseneck and fifth wheel, the factory setup is about the most expensive. If you already have the factory prep package your options are limited, but I along with many others love the B&W Turnover Ball/Companion hitch.

Thanks! Good jab BTW. I just want that factory look with the plug. Did you drill the wacky size hole, or just drill a bigger circle for the plug? I like the B&W, but i dont like the gray color, my plan is to repaint the side plates a dull black so they dont stick out.
I made up a template to mark out the hole. It is a very odd shape. I drilled holes in the corners to keep the hole neat then cut it out with a cutoff wheel. I painted the exposed metal so that it wouldn't rust. One hint on the plug, it doesn't come with fastening hardware. The bolts are the same ones used to mount a 6.0 turbo. You will also need the slip on threaded clips unless you intend to use nuts on the bolts.
Painting the B&W Turnover Ball is a great idea. My only complaint about their product is the extremely poor prep work that is done prior to their powder coating. The powder coat starts to come loose during the install and it's all down hill from there especially if you live in a road salt climate. This is my second truck that I have used their hitch on and within less than 6 months of the install it was starting to rust. I wish I hadn't been in such a hurry to install it and that I would have stripped and painted it like I had planned to. Sometime this Fall I'm going to remove the hitch and repaint it or maybe even have it professionally powder coated. Until then Fluid Film has saved the day!
The gooseneck extenders work well for shortbed trucks.
I ordered a cable assy on the internet has two cables, Remove the plug from the connector under the bumper and plug one cable into the cable removed from the plug and one plugs into the bumper plug... Drill a 2 1/8 hole inside the bed 4 self tapping screws and you are done. I had some excess cable to tie up. $49.00 to my door.....
Looked on fordparts.com, but was unable to locate the part number for the in-bed harness. Anyone have the OEM part number(s)? Thanks.
Tom
The part number is 13A576 . It looks like the price has gone up some. It lists for $60.72 and as I recall it was about $54 when I bought mine 6 months ago. My cost was just under $40.
Be careful of the aftermarket harnesses. I bought an aftermarket by Pollak who manufactures the OEM harness for Ford and it would not work without modification. The depth of the harness where it plugs into the back of the bed plug is too deep and would not work without a spacer such as the factory bed plug has. Unfortunately Ford does not sell just the mounting block for the plug so I bought the whole factory harness just to keep some resemblance of a factory install and not have a rigged looking install.
