I have an 88 5.0L Bronco, that I am having issues with on the Starter not disengaging after starting. the problem originally started with the fuseable link going bad, after replacing that along with the solenoid it ran well for about another 3 weeks. then one day the starter would not disengage, i burnt up a solenoid. I replaced both the starter and the solenoid and problem fixed for another few days. now the starter again will not disengage. I tried replacing the starter switch but that is working fine. the battery is a good battery as i have had it tested twice at two different locations. I have no idea as to what this problem may be. open to all suggestions! THANKS
Remove the starter and inspect the ring gear on the flywheel/flexplate. If the gear has slipped or there are damaged teeth on it the spur gear in the starter may be getting caught causing it to hang instead of retracting like it should.
So have brought into an auto zone and he could not give me an answer as to what the problem is. I inspected the teeth on the flexwheel and had the starter tested off the vehicle. re-checked my wire connections and found a lose ground wire off battery....which was fixed.
now I can get to starter to crank the engine very slow at first then well for about 10 seconds then dies down again, yet the engine is still not turning over. it acts as if the battery is low. I tried to jump start still no power. it runs well...just have to push it (manual).
thanks for reading the novel....again.
sincerly,
