1941 COE build

Hello all Ford truck guys and gals. I probably will drag home a 1941 COE Saturday for a longish term project. Early thoughts are:

Cab body work, maybe make an extended cab or 4 door. (I just happen to know where a regular cab 1947 is sitting in wait - Yes I'm in critical condition)

Modern 4WD chassis and drivetrain donor.

My intent is a daily driver and tow duty vehicle with unique style. I'm unsure if I'll make it that far. I see challenges in making a 70 year old truck cab with a flip out windshield quiet enough to be tolerable for long distances at 75 mph. My tow vehicle needs to make NH to Florida trips. We'll see. My fab skills are OK, primarily used on Jeeps like the '57 in my avatar.

I look forward to making good use of the collective brilliance here.

Thank you IwannaFlattie for the link to body parts!

Rick

pix

I haven't figured out how to post a pic that's not hosted elsewhere yet. But I managed to get one into "my garage". It's a real "gem" at this point, but I ain't scared, the brakes are good, the tires fair.

Donors??

Been thinking about possible donors and issues with various vehicles.. (I know the COE isn't in my driveway yet)

I'd like it to be Ford simply cuz the COE is a Ford, however I'm definately not a purist, my CJ has a SBC, a Ford T-18 and a Jeep transfer case!

I don't think I can live w/o 4wd cuz pulling the boat on some ramps cannot be done without it. However, I do wonder if a dually with an LSD might get the job done. That would open up donors like E350s. My guess is their steering would be more easily adapted to a COE.

Size-wise, I know Dakotas are popular swaps under this vintage. My guess would be full size pickups might be a bit large. Again, no measurements taken yet. All input is appreciated.

I don't think the donor will need to be "bagged". My hope is to get it low enough in other ways for the right "stance", but still high enough for daily driving w/o being one of those Honda, farty exhaust cars that has to take railroad tracks 1 tire at a time.

Followed us home! It will be a slow project. Making curved panels will be a learning experience. Jeeps are flat.

My buddy named him Buford.

Anyone need a flathhead V8?
