Well 3 qts is the requmended amount. It was all over here that additives caused problems. I've sesrched the forums and at the moment weeding thru the results. I haven't found the problems it causes yet. I thought I had read it will stop up filter and screen going to hpop and run injectors dry. If it doesn't gum them up.
For the money he spent he coulda just went synthic.
I believe Lucas has a lot of BS in it but in the low ratio he added it, he should be fine for this oil change interval, just don't add it in the future...
The one thing I was told about lucas is it is a great fluid cold. Like in those gear wheel demos on the counters..but after it is heated to 200* plus, it does not hold up deteriates rapidly, and varnishes. But if you have an old rig that is burnning lots of oil it has helped stopped the problem.enter here a visual of what it takes to stop oil from leaking past worn rings..jmho...

I've used lucas in my gasers I reckon since it came out. But then again when it came out I don't remember synthic being all that stable. They've come along away way with synthic oils. This day and age for the money lucas doesn't make since when you can use sythic cheaper.
I've never had a problem w/ lucas in my gas engines. I use it in ever gas engine I have and in my JD which is diesel. But my JD doesn't have the tight tolerances that these psds do. I've had a few oil reports done w/ lucas and there was never any negatives.
I totally agree that the synthetic oil has really improved, I can remember when Arco was one of the first to come out with the synthetic.. But even the dyno oils are far superior today then 20 or even 10 years ago.. I can remember when everone used STP and Marvel oil in their motors. My point is refrenced from a name brand oil supplier, as I don't use additives in oil with the exception of zddp to replace the zinc that has been removed. If the additives were that great I think the oil engineers would add it, heck maybe they have...
the only case I know of was an oil burner the neighbor had.And that would take a thickning agent to seal up the rings or shelac type coating to stop the burning. Maybe my reasoning is incorrect on this but the other option would be a wear additive to wear the rings down to seal again. This seems like it would an interesting senario to tear down the motor and see what has taken place. I will have to ask him if he is still using the old pickup. again just my opinion..

As that I understand what your saying, I don't think they would. Given the the price. Lucas depending how you buy it nearly $9 a qt. So in my gasers it adds $5 to the oil change. I don't see the oil companies adding it. Imo their answer to that is the synthic oil.
