My wrench light comes on after 20mins of highway driving. It doesnt come on when driving in the city. I have used my scanner and it shows no codes. The truck drives just fine when the light comes on. No loss of power or limp mode. Any suggestions on whats causing this? Thanks
Does the light go back out while you are driving? It is possible that your scanner won't pick up some codes..... go to an Auto Zone and have them test it...it's a free service.
Its a innova digital can obd2 scanner. I bought it from oreilly auto parts last year. Its a pretty generic scanner. I have heard that the auto zone scanners wont pick up the code but its worth a shot to try. Thanks
Same thing happened to me a few weeks ago, although once I shut it off and turned it back on, the wrench has not been back. I bought a Scangauge II to monitor my ECT vs. EOT and I think my oil cooler is the culprit. Keep us posted if you find out something else is causing the problem.
I have the 3100. I read the codes with the key turned but not the engine running. Could that be the problem? I dont think mine reads the ECT or EOT. I have heard that it could be the acceleration pedal sensor/throttle control unit or the oil cooler. Im just at a loss of what it could be. Thanks for all the help guys!!!

Sounds like a oil cooler replacement is in your future.
Also ... AutoZone scanners will not pick up wrench light codes, you'll need to go to the dealer or get something like an Edge Insight CS.
Yeah i think its the oil cooler also. When the light comes on it doesnt lose power or go into limp mode so i think its not the turbo. I guess im gonna have to break down and take it in. Thanks for the help!
I 3rd the oil cooler diagnosis. Mine wrench light came on last year driving on the interstate. As I recall, a short drive wouldn't turn it on. But it was the oil cooler efficiency.
I replaced the oil cooler and it never came back on.
If you do it yourself, you may consider doing an EGR delete and having your intake manifold flushed, since it's all gonna be sitting out on your workbench anyway.
Replace the screen under the oil cooler while your in there.
I'd recommend flushing the cooling system with VC-9 thereafter. There's a good procedure detailed here at FTE by "beachbumcook".
