Attaching Wire to Stud, Tip
I was rewiring a control panel at work and needed to attach a wire harness to a series of studs. There wasn't enough stud sticking out to put a stud mount wire tie on, and nut. Pulling the existing nut off and putting the wire tie ring under it would have ruined the integrity of the fastener. I took a 3M ring terminal for #12 wire, pulled the yellow insulator off, and put the ring under the nut, and tightened the nut down. I then threaded a plain wire tie thru the uncrimped barrel of the terminal, and tightened it around my harness. I was able to bend the terminal barrel up so the wire harness wouldn't touch the panel or the stud and possibly rub.
The 3M insulated ring terminals have a double camfered barrel, so they will be less likely to cut the wire tie. They are thicker than others and are less prone to breaking.
