Hi Jayybird,

Bismic has recommended reading posted in the tech folder. When was the last time you did a cooling system service with VC-9 iron cleaning added and flushed? I just did one and replaced the oil cooler for a second time. First time was under warranty but was running EOT at 240 when towing and hit 250 up big grades with coolant puking. After flush and new cooler (got diesel site coolant filter too late) my deltas did not go over 11 degrees. Still hit 238 EOT on a steep grade briefly with a 50 HP tow tune but still within 11 delta about 98 outside. Tow 40' toy-hauler about 17K. Unloaded now about 2-5 degree delta.

If you know them, or do business with them. Let them know they are using the wrong boost code. Theirs is doing the same thing the boost codes did on SGII's original website on codes.

SGII has a new page for Xgauges that will help them do it correctly.

Their customers will thank you for it.

Well I guess everybody can mess up a little. I did not know they were using the wrong codes but they Bpd will fix it soon they are pretty good about making sure things are to customers happy (at least with my dealings w/ them) . Thanks for letting fte know about this , if I bought my sgII from them I would let them know but I got sgII just alittle to soon.

Not their fault really. I used the same ones. The boost kept going to a negative number after 21. The code has been changed for the diesel turbos. They needed to be able to go higher than they set it up for originally.

They will get it figured out. BpD that is.

I just got finished with one that the ect was 220 and the eot would get to 297. Customer brought it in complaining of loss of power. The eot would get high enough that it would start de-rating HP.

So are we agreeing that is a little on the high side? I am due for a flush, last one done was at 114k I am at 140k now. I think a good flushen with vc9 and ELC will do the trick... For now.... Again it was 100 deg Per the truck's thermo

Regarding when the fan comes on, mine came on the other day while truck was parked with high idle on. Eot was like 200 ish if I remember correctly, temps seem normal at the time but when I heard the fan kick on I caught me off guard. Actually kinda freaked me out, iwas hooking on to a trailer and heard some roaring sound, walked around to the front of truck and sure enough the fan was on. Is this unusual or does thetruck know to start cooling it self since it's not moving???

Any input appreciated

I don't think your temps are really high. You only have a 10 degree differential. I just replaced my oil cooler and did a coolant flush (no VC9, bought it but got scared). Now, towing my 5th wheel, my temps are like 198 ECT/202 EOT on a 95 degree day at 70MPH. On extended steep grades in the mountains, it would get to 210 ECT/220 EOT Before the new cooler, I would see 210 ECT 240 EOT (towing). I didn't have any indication that anything was wrong until I bought the sgII.

Maybe I am bragging but I have been checking my ECT and EOT for the past week. I got the new AE and am learning about it. Anyway my delta is 2 to 3 1/2 with the outside temp being in the mis 80's without a/c or pulling anything.
In my opinion with a new cooler and a few miles on it, I would keep a close eye.

Thanks, that boost my confidence. I'll keep my eye on it for sure. However, I would still like to switch over to ELC and do a flush. For those who us ELC, how often are you doing flushes? From what I've read on here ELC is good for like 300k, wasn't sure if flushes were still required?? Thanks again for the info fellas.

I bought an oil cooler kit and EGR delete from River City Diesel for under $500 and put it in myself. It requires a lot of labor, but isn't too technical. My friend had a new EGR cooler and oil cooler done for in the neighborhood of $1500.

With your temps, I would just monitor it. I would be curious to see what a flush would do for yours. I was getting ready to go on a big trip, so I didn't want to mess around with trying a flush and maybe loossening up some stuff that might plug it up more while I was hundreds of miles from home with the camper in tow.
