cannot accelerate, suck air like crazy
have a 1978 F100, with a 1 bbl carter YFA.
4 years ago i sent the carb to be rebuilt, it sat in the driveway for 4 years, other then the occasional start. ( 2 or 3 time a years )
I am finally back at it, it started fine, i check,
it idle nicely, but as soon as i try to push on the gas pedal, you can hear the carb trying to suck air..... like it's running out of air.
1) I moved the need for the fuel mixture, all the way in, and turn it back 2 full turn.
2) i checked with a light the timing, but i forgot to plug the advance vaccum, ( will redo tonight)
3) (i think i have all the vaccum plug right) i remove the manifold tube and plug all 6 hole, and remove the AIR pump.
4) i replace the gas, put gas treatment in the tank
5) tried a carb cleaner from the top,
thought?? suggestion ??
p.s. already change spark plug, wire, cap
Sincerely
Gerald. <!-- / message -->

Prob time to rebuild that carb again. Letting it sit that long ten bucks says it has a bunch of varnish in it.

IMO it sounds like the accelerator pump in the carb. It shoots more gas so you can go. I would have the carb rebuilt and save yourself the hassel of trying a bunch of different things.

Just pull your carb off, get a rebuild kit and a gallon of carb cleaner, and rebuild it yourself. Its actually really easy.
