6 cylinder with auto?

I have a 79 with a 6 cylinder and 3 speed with over drive. Did they make this truck with a 6 and atuo? The reason I ask is the trans and clutch are on the way out.

Yep, my '79 has a straight six with a C6 3-speed auto.

I've got the same setup as FMC. 300 six with a C6. Bulletproof combo. If you want to switch to auto you will need one with a small block bell housing.

I agree, if you are going to an auto, find a C6. It will need to have come from behind another 300, or a 302/351W V8. No other engines will have have the same bellhousing pattern, and unlike the manual, the bellhousing is not removeable.
My 80 F150 has the 300/C6. Very tough combo. Only ways to kill either is 1) overheating, 2) lack of oil/fluid, or 3) drive 200K miles or more......

Mine has the originl 300 I6, and C4 transmisison with 83,000 original miles on it. Runs great, shift perfect, and gets right up to cruising speed from the red light with the rest of them.
