52 f2 with f1 bed swap

Sorry in advance if this is a on going thread. I could not find one that answered my question. I know the beds are different lenghts and the wheel openings are in different spots. What is involved in putting a F1 bed on a F2. I just picked up a 52 F2 with no bed and like the F1 length better and the you can find one. Saw a couple people say "not just lobbhing off the back half of frame have to take some out of middle" Is the middle part just to move axle foward to line up the wheels in the openings? I have a four link im going to use so can i just lobb off back move some brackets and center axle in openings and weld her up? Thanks in advance for any info

The wheelbase is 8" longer on the F2 so for the wheel to be centered in the opening you have to remove 8" of frame behind the cab. And a little off the tails. Crossmembers might have to be moved. It's been done, but not by me.

I was going down that path when 51Panelman convinced me that it'd be easier to find an F1 frame & switch everything else over. It worked out pretty well (so far).

Thanks for the input. I did think of the f1 frame swap and still may be a option. I just figured with using a mustang 8.8 rear end and 4 link i can move it forward and weld up the 4 link to the frame where i need it!

If you take the 8 inches just past the front most bed mounting hole you won't even have to to drill new holes for the F-1 bed. Also, taking the 8 inches out moves the rear running board bracket forward enough that it lines up with the mounting holes in F-1 running boards. Take another 12 inches off the rear overhang and then the bed will fit the frame just like it was an F-1. You can use the extra crossmember for shock mounting.

This is my F-3 converted to an F-1.

Dan

That's only because I had an F1 frame to sell.
