Just wanted to let you all know- I bought 4 new Pirelli Scorpion ATR tires a little over 2 years ago & I only had 11 k on them & the sidewalls near the rim started to dry rot and crack badly,on all 4. Went to tire dealer & got a new pro-rated price on a set of Coopers. Was reading on some other sights about the Pirelli's having pre-mature dry rotting. When I bought these they had a better rating than Michelin m/s on tire rack. Just a heads up. - Btw - got the new Coopers installed.
most guys don't know this ive even seen a couple of tire salesmen that didn't know that there is a production date on all tires useally on the out side side wall there are numbers in a circle (5010) that would be 50th week of 2010 they are not allowed to sell a tire that is over 7 years old but it happens all the time. worth checking how old the new tires really are !
What a bummer Bill, sorry to hear. That or those tires might have been sitting in a wharehouse for awhile before they were sold. They're is a code on the sidewall somewhere showing when it was made if you looked.
It's OK. Those are very soft tires that wear down quickly anyway. If you haul loads on a regular basis and keep the tires aired up all the time, you can wear down the center of the tread in less than 20k miles. If you don't air up, you'll wear down the outer edges when you haul a load. Keep them aired up just perfect, and you still will be lucky to get 25k - 30k out of them.
I had checked the manufacture date b4 they were installed & they were only 3 months old. Only charged me 160.00 for the 4 new coopers(out the door) since there was still 80-85% tread left on them.Edit- Hoping the coopers are a better tire. Heard some pretty good reviews on them.
I had Coopers on previous car vehicles and they wore great, outstanding tire. Get your front end tweeked and what Chris mentioned and you'll be golden..
