Thumbs up

I think you should have gone with MC oil and filters. But,if you can afford RP and it makes you sleep better at night then by all means use it.

I am just debating about every how many miles I should change my oil now running Royal purple. I have heard once a year and also every 60,000 what do you recommend.

Thanks Jake
Thanks for the info on the plugs Jake... since my early maintenance training takes me to aircraft I 'll probably change out plugs @ 50k.

As for the oil. First RP is great oil. (Disclaimer I'm an Amsoil guy but run RP in the diff. of my PSD..lol...) Anyway...IF you used the Donaldson oil filter as sold by Amsoil I would be very comfortable running one year with the RP. The nanotechnology in the Donaldson filters are just so far advanced from the rest. I would never recommend anyone ever go beyond vendor recommended interval or past the one year mark.

I would send a sample to Blackstone Labs and establish a baseline of engine wear and then proceed from there but typically 12-15k on one oil change is my personal comfort factor even when the results indicate another 3-5k is fine. But that is me....obsessive compulsive to a fault. The first mod for me is to install a Fumoto drain valve. The nipple allows me to insert a short piece of tygon tubing and drain directly into a sample bottle w/o a mess or fuss.

That's my take hope it helps by sharing one's personal experience and that you will be st some point comfortable with your decision point.

the 5.4 3v does take 7 quarts. I think the guy that said something about 6 qts had a 4.6, which does take only 6 quarts.
And for the record I buy a 5 quart jug of Motorcraft 5-20, and 2 quarts of 5-20. And I use the motorcraft filter (820s) all purchased from my local walmart. They sell the motorcraft filters cheaper than they do the frams

I don't use them. I think I clearly said that in the post. I said the motorcraft filters are cheaper than frams.

Full disclaimer,I amalso an AMSOIL guy. My 2006 F-150 (4.6L) runs the AMSOIL 0w-20 Signature Series oil with the AMSOIL EaO11 oil filter. When it comes to oil filters, I have several that I have cut open for displays (Fram, Purolater, Motorcraft and Wal-Mart brand) The Fram and the Wal-Mart ones were just about the same on the inside. Motorcraft was just a little better and had the silicone valve. The Purolater was the one that really surprised me. It had a lose string inside, that was not attached to ANYTHING!
