Someone makes/made an adapter for a 4150 carb on an efi intake but I can't remember who.
375hp is a cheap build for a carb'd 460. Change the timing chain, cam, carb and intake on a junkyard engine and you're there. OR bolt on some D3 heads and aluminum intake to your EFI block.
And I assume the 7.5 EFI will go ape **** if I just swap in a C6 for now. What's the upper hp limit on the 7.5 EFI before I need expensive computer mods?
price motor sports makes the adapter kris mentioned for using a carb on the efi intake.
no the efi computer won't be happy with a c-6 and the efi. they receive signals between the two and taking one away fubars the other.
if you're closer to me than them i have a good set of d3 heads for sale and i'd buy mine first, larry is a swindler who will screw you over , and paul is a dope fiend who will just spend the profits on pills. he's been clean for a bit, but he'd definitely relapse with some spare cash i'm a good honest guy who will shoot you straight and sell you good cheap parts
i believe a few guys on 460ford.com have said they are in the 375ish hp range on the factory efi, but it costs money. in all honesty i bet the best you could do would be 300hp with a reflash of the computer to the 1996-97 275 hp tune and one of those aftermarket efi cams and some free flowing exhaust. don't know how much or who does computer reflash crap though.
I just saw that adapter plate and it looks very interesting. I think that adapter, a good carb, and a C6 are a good starting point. Anybody running this setup? I see a reduction in fuel pressure is required and am curious to the hp of this setup on a stock 7.5.
messing with the timing will likely net you about the same hp as the stock efi, maybe a few more at best, and a little less throttle response. without swapping to a decent set of carb heads, intake, and doing a cam swap you aren't going to gain chit.
if you do go that route get an adjustable inline fuel regulator to step the pressure down. idk much about it, but that's the easiest way to do it.
Option A: Rag the **** out of the current 7.5 till it dies and replace with a carborated 400 hp 7.5 crate motor and C6 COST ????
Option B: Rebuilt 7.5 EFI to 400 hp range and keep the E40D Cost ??????????
What's the cost difference?
I like the reliablty of the C6 and ease of use of the carb on the first option
I like that I don't have to replace a tranny I just rebuilt in option 2 but am growing to hate the EFI.
a. and then sell rebuilt e4od for profit. don't know prices but a. is easier and most likely cheaper.
300-375hp is easy to get to with a 460, above that cost money, especially when your talking efi b/s.
decide if an overdrive tranny and run at any angle reliability are more important than power and simplicity. i've had both and i'd give my left nut for my zf and d60f mixed with my carbed 400hp/500ft 466 out of my 85, but my stock zf 5 seed f350 with 250ish hp was more than adequate for most everything. would have been a beast with gearing.
