Exactly what is this? My check engine light popped on, and my tranny shifted like crap. I brought it into the dealership (for other things as well), and it turns out my bank#1 HEGO sensor was garbage. Any correlation, or just coincidence?

HEGO sensor
Heated Exhaust Gas Oxygen sensor, also called HO2S. It's an oxygen sensor with a built-in heating element that brings it quickly up to ~600°F, sooner than an older unheated O2S would get there.
It should have NO effect on shifting, so diagnose that separately.

Thanks for the reply Steve. Its a 96 Bronco with the 351. As soon as I got it back, it shifted fine. If it wasnt that, who knows. Its fine know, Ill leave well enough alone.

Is yours MAF/OBD-II? You can have the codes pulled at a parts store free and see if there are any problems with the transmission. Maybe the engine stumbled and cause the transmission to downshift for a second.
