Hey guys, I am trying to eliminate my missing problems on my 77 F150 351M, as far as I know it has the factory distributor, and before I try and get the distributor loose(its ceased in the block, and I will probably bust it) I want to try and replace the cap, and rotor and see if that makes a difference......
which one of these cap kits would I need? Or something else better?
I disagree, get a quality cap and rotor with copper parts. Also use quality plug wires and copper plugs. You don't need top of the line, just copper quality.

I agree with fmc400 on this. That aside, if you have the male prong DSII cap now, your plug wires will work. If it's the DSI female connections then no. Personally, I never buy from Jegs due to the fact they tack on a "handling" charge to each order. Summit beats them everyday.

Copper vs. other contact materials is not my point - my point was it makes no sense to spend almost $40 online on a "performance" distributor cap when that's clearly not the goal here. My "$10" reference is simply an allusion to the fact that the basics will do here. If a copper-contact cap costs more than $10 in practice, then by all means go for that. Whatever the end result ends up being, this problem can be solved by a quick trip to Napa.

I don't know if an MSD cap will fit on a stock Ford distributor, because it doesn't matter - we're telling you that there is no reason to do this because this is a commonly stocked item at any parts store, and is very straightforward. If you're under the impression that switching from an OEM distributor cap to an MSD cap will solve a misfiring issue, then you are mistaken. But, it's your truck.
I plan on calling all of the local shops today, and checking what they have........I realize that these MSD caps have no advantage over any other cap I can get locally.......I just dont want a cap with aluminum contacts thats all....
Just letting you guys know, I think I got the issue taken care of..........I bought an Echlin cap and rotor from Napa...........which by the way ended up costing $35.......
This helped the problem a lot, and then today I clamped visegrips on the distributor shaft, and worked it loose with a hammer(It had been soaking in PB Blaster for 3 days)..............I advanced the timing a little bit, and that seemed to pretty much completely eliminate the backfiring issue I had.......
