Warm start problem

I just picked up a 97 F-250 with 460 and automatic transmission and when the engine is cold it will fire off on the first couple cranks like it should. Once the engine reaches operating temp and I go to re-fire it will just crank and crank and crank unless I hold the gas pedal down and then it fires right off. Any idea on what is causing this? There are no check engine lights on and other wise the pickup seems to run just fine.

You can have stored codes without a Check Engine Light on. Before tossing money at the problem check for stored codes as well as doing the Key On Engine Off tests.

I changed the starter out this weekend along with putting a new battery ground cable as the end twisted off during removal and I am glad to report that it is running a whole lot better and starts good even when warmed up to operating temp. When it was hot it had a hard time to turn over to start with and then would spin the engine good but always left me wondering if it was going to crank at all so that was the reason for the new starter. I wonder if that small ground lead off the battery cable that ultimitly goes back to the engine controller was a little corrorded and the new cable took care of that? At any rate it works great now!

Yes, the statement in bold can cause a lot of problems. Good find, thanks for replying back!
