Hi everyone this has probably been covered , but imagine yourself riding a push bike with a severely buckled front wheel and how that would feel in your hands , well this is what my 77 2wd feels like , only when i hit a pot hole and at low speed thank god. I have checked outer wheel bearings and they appear ok , though havent checked inners only because theres no play when trying to wobble wheel. Its outta control and **** myself when it first happened , got home jacked it up and checked all i could , but could not see anything to alarm me .......any ideas what would cause this. Normal freeway driving it seems good with no wobble.
Check the rear suspension, you might have snaped a bolt on the leafspring shackle I had this happen to me, but mine got worse as a I went fatster the wobble got worse. It could be a susoention problem in the front too, but mine was a rear right.
Sounds like it has some play in the steering linkage. I'd investigate that really well. You don't want one of those joints falling apart on you while driving down the road......
Stevenjakeryan,my 72 did the same thing several years ago.I checked everything and fixed the stuff that was bad and it still did the 45 mile per hour dance of death.I finally thought to check the I-Beam bushings where they mount at the frame and all that was left was the bushing steel shell and no rubber bushing which meant about an inch of travel at each axle.If you remove your I-Beams make sure you save the old bushing shells as they do not come with the new bushings and I have never been able to find them for sale anywhere.I used the neoprene bushings and got them at a local off road shop. This repair totally fixed my death wobble problem, good luck with your truck.
