Color-Coded Vacuum Hoses

Does anyone know where I can find color-coded striped vacuum hose?

I currently have my vacuum hoses marked with colored tape, and it works well. But I saw an original low-mileage truck on Ebay a while back that still had the original color-coded striped hose, and thought it looked really cool. I checked Ebay already for the striped hoses, and every seller I could come up with only sold the hoses in kits for Corvettes and Mustangs, already cut and VERY expensive.

Any ideas?

I see them in the junk yards all the time for the 300 6 cyl. That wasn't a very good idea really. they get brittle and break easily. I've already had to replace mine once.

Lariat isn't talking about the OEM plastic vacuum lines found on the feedback system. He is asking about replacement vacuum lines for normal carb and emissions components, etc.

I haven't seen any with colored stripes, but I did find these colored hoses made of silicone online: Silicone Vacuum Hose

I'll also be interested to see anyone's opinion on replacement vacuum lines, one of my upcoming projects is to replace all of mine.

I replaced all my hard vacuum lines with rubber, due to them deteriorating.

I would like to find some colored hard vacuum lines for my truck as well, but, they only come in black.

For some reason, all the aftermarket lines that I've bought have deteriorated at a much faster rate than the original equipment ones. So, I have resorted to buying more of them than I need, and keeping some on hand. I also keep an assortment pack of the vacuum caps in the glove-box, as I've had them go bad in the most inopportune of places.

I've never seen this stuff in person, although I may be able to arrange that depending on stock/availability.

POLYAIR® Series K1131, K1134, K1136, K1137, K1138 Multi-Purpose Air & Water Hose on Kuriyama of America, Inc.

It seems like the colored-stripe rubber vacuum hoses Lariat wants should be available somewhere - or at least they used to be. Some of the rubber vacuum lines in my truck are black but have a blue or orange stripe along their length. Maybe they are factory original?

Yes those are factory original.

You can mimic those lines with a good vinyl dye if desired.

The color codes of those lines should correspond to the emissions label on the radiator support if your label is in color. Some unfortunately from the early 80's are black and white.

From memory from my 1981:

Yellow is vacuum advance
Blue is EGR valve from carb to PVS.
Green is EGR valve from PVS to EGR valve.

Etc...

Well they must have been well made - they are still fairly pliable! Quality from a bygone era, I suppose.

I've looked around online to no avail. If colored stripe vacuum lines are available, I cannot find them... I'll probably just use black Goodyear brand synthetic rubber hoses when I eventually get around to replacing all mine. For some reason I don't trust the bright-colored silicone hoses, although the websites selling them claim they are superior to rubber.

I went and looked closer (too hot to anything else) and found vacuum lines under my hood that have blue, red, orange, and even white stripes on them. They are everywhere. I find it weird that similar replacements aren't available.

That's a good idea!

Was tryin' to think to myself how stripes could be painted onto generic black hoses, never thought of paint pens from the hobby or craft store.

Need to spread the love, though....

I'd try to wipe down the hose with acetone or brakekleen first.
They seem pretty slick with mold release or something off the spool.

Searching this forum, I found an older post by Franklin2 that provided a link to a company/distributer that sells all kinds of vacuum tubing in different compositions and temperature resistance (rubber, nylon, polycarbonate, etc) AND colors, including black with different colored stripes: McMaster-Carr

Scroll down the page and you can see the different color and stripe choices.
Looks like they would even have tubing comparable to the colored plastic lines that feed the feedback solenoids.

What I haven't figured out yet is if it is possible for the average consumer to purchase relatively small amounts of different colors/stripes from this company. But colored and colored stripe tubing DOES still exist!
