i have some spare time and some sunshine finally.. time for the next project. what should i do?
1)ats turbo 093 (everything but the dipstick tube)
2)zf5 (everything thats needed but maybe new clutch if i want)
3)smoke stacks (need to purchase)
4)shackle reversal and flip kit (need to purchase)
what should i do? i was thinking zf5 because i dont have the tranny tube for turbo kit. what do you guys think?
everything there will be easier to do pre-lift but id go lift first. at least buy it while you do the zf5 swap and the ats install. that only takes a couple hours including welding the old exhaust to the new downpipe. and stacks are terrible, avoid that "mod" all together
hey i didn't notice the question over here too.
oreo recently swapped in some 5.13's for his big tires like i suggested you focus on first over at OBN.
he'll tell ya how much improvement that made with them big treads.
i think you like the gearing improvement more than you did when you had the turbo installed didn't ya oreo?

5.38's and the gears saved my clutch as much as it helped improve the power. and anything over 38's id suggest the same gears. i wish there were lower cause for my tires id like closer to 6's. 6.71's in the rockwells sound just about right for my application.
lol if you do the 5 speed and stacks...then youll be as cool as me...
id start with the zf5, then turbo it...then do the stacks at the time of the turbo cause youll be doing exhaust work already and that turbo will sound killer with those stacks

well here's my reply from the other thread;
none of the above.
you lost focus on what is most important imho.
you have an actual gear ratio of 3.38:1 with 4.10 gears and 38.5" tall tires.
your truck needs some gears to help bring ya back to a performance gear.
a nice set of 4.56 gears would bring ya right up in the happy medium of 3.75 gearing, that would really make ya smile.
drop in a set of 4.88's to get ya up the performance field a bit more with close to 4.10's (just shy at 4.02)
personally id go with a set of 5.13's for a truck built up like yours for an actual gear ratio of 4.22 since those tires are big and heavy,it'll feel closer to a truck with 4.10's and stock tires.
it'll go so much better you'd think you dropped in two idi's.
anyway,that's my 2 cents.
p.s.
after that,id be working on the front springs.
so then id pick:
shackle flip and RSK
simply because a truck riding on 8 front leafs isn't anyone's idea of an enjoyable ride lol.
.................
if he does this first, before the Zf5 swap, his clutch will thank him.
one has to think the turbo will spool up much better as well with proper gearing, making the turbo install results a much more enjoyable experience.
Gear swap f250hdxlt said it best you would be amazed at what gears will do to get you ta bring back her get up and go and as he stated the clutch on the zf5 will thank you for it just my 2 cents

i think its time for gears, just did a quick search and it would be around 1200$ for gears, install kit, and aftermarket diff covers. Of course i would do the labor. I can definitely tell i have the actual ratio of 3.38...highway at 65-70 im right around 2k rpm in OD, makes freeway nice but getting up to the speed is definitely lacking.
When i have more time i will search deeper into the install, but does anyone know of any good write ups on doing the gears in a 97 10.25 ls and a 88 dana 60 kingpin?
i ran 4.10s w/38's for 5 years, all while pulling regularly. no issue once i swapped in the zf5
pulling with it isnt the issue its just takes more juice to get going. most of my driving is 25-50mph with stop and go. maybe once or twice a month i hit the freeway
