I'm trying to find a place to install a Firestone Air Bag Compressor in my 2010 F350 Lariat Diesel 4x4. Under the hood is out of the question - you couldn't fit a matchbook under there. Inside the cab???? Where???? Anyone out there already install one of these?
Thanks for the idea, however, I've completely removed the rear seat out of my crew cab (needed room for dog crates). I'm thinking my only option may be up under the dash somewhere - maybe up on the firewall behind the brake pedal).
I mounted mine under my ext. Cab seat, but since you have a crew cab and no seat, you might be able to fit it behind the pedals. It will be a tight fit I think but might work. The only other option is on the frame rails but then you have to worry about rust.
I have regular cab and lot of stuff I carry behind the seat, so I have my fill up connectors with gauges bolted to the floor between the seat and the door and keep the compressor in the outside tool box. Whenever I need to inflate the bags, it takes like 45 seconds on the parking lot. Since I also have air bags on my trailer, I just move the same compressor to the trailer.
I put my compressors under the bed, mounted to frame. Built a steel and aluminum box to protect them. The box is vented (even has an 8" fan for when both compressors are working hard), but in a way that very little spray or dirt can get in.
Several of the class C motor home manufacturers mount them on the frame rails and they seem to hold up pretty well. I had them there on two motor homes and did not have any problems. A cover may be a good idea for added protection.
