I have a 92 f150 with a 4.9. The temp. gauge always reads too cold and I changed the thermostat without any differance. I suspect that the coolant temperture sender is bad on the side of the block and am planning on changing it. However I check the resistance on the coolant temperature sensor (the one by the thermostat) and am getting no resistance at all between the two pins.
Does anyone know if I am doing this test right? There are two pins on the sensor and am not sure if I am suppose to check betweent the two or from one to ground. Thanks
The sensor on the front of the engine is the Engine Coolant Temperature sensor (ECT) for the PCM. It should measure between ~500 to 115k Ohms between the two pins.
