I do not know if this is the right forum for this question. If not, mods move it where it belongs.
I have been having hub locking trouble and finally located a bad vacuum hose. Hose has been replaced. Now when I engage the 4WD and apply a little power, I get a terrible bang out of the front end, then the truck moves on. Sometimes there is a second bang, sometimes not. The chain appears tight in the transfer case and the ujoints look ok. I have turned the wheels with hubs locked one at a time and the joints are free.
It seems to me that a hub is not fully engaging, but I do not know how to check that. I have had both off. I do not see any damaged teeth and they seem to lock and unlock, though a bit stiff.
Loud crunch noise when turning right and go over the slightest bump
I am a little at a loss on this one but , I am sure I probrobly am just over looking something simple that I have yet to find ..... My 95 F250 7.3 P.S. Make's a sound as if the tire is going to enter the cab when ever I am turning into a lot , gas statim ..ect,ect I have cchecked the shock , springs , ball joints the only thing on the passenger side I can find are some worn and loose bushings on the tapered arm (forgive mw I am not sure what the part is called) that attaches up to the axle between the joints the tapers down and is attached at the other end to a bracket bolted to the frame and the bushings are dry rotted and loose but it seem as this tapered arm that starts out about 6'' wide at the axle the taper's down to about 3-4'' going toward's rear of truck and is only about 2 foot long with one nut and a couple bushing's would have nothing to do with the travel up and down of the suspension or am I wrong ??? Also, the other problem I am having is a diesel leak but can fimd no loose connection around any line or oround the filter housing but it is dripping out right in the small tabbed hole on the shield in front of the oil pan just behind where the motor mount's to the tranny ... Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated ... Thank you T. MARTIN CLARKSTON , MI.
Martin, I am presuming yours is not a 4x4. The arm you are talking about, is called an A-Arm, or suspension travel arm. If the rear bushing is worn or has a lot of slop you will feel a bang when applying the brakes. As to the other, it sounds like the seal for the filter did not seat.
Does the knock come from the transfercase under the driver compartment?
Something is hanging up causing a late engagement when the power has been applied. Put the truck up on stands, engage the 4wd while all corners are raised up. Listen carefully, this won't be a quick test as you need to focus on more that one place of the front end of the drivetrain. A friend will be beneficial on making this exercise easier. Thoroughly inspect all of the front axle up to the transfercase.
