I'm going to share my comments on the 2007 Supercrew Lariat I just got recently. Finally got a chance to go on a long road trip on it over the weekend. I drove up to Rocky Mountain region for two days in Central Colorado, driving up and down and went through couple passes as well. I was suprised to get around 19 mpg after 400 miles.
The driving experience got mixed result, I appreciate the smoothness and cushy ride on the 2007 with the OEM shocks. But it driving at higher speed such as interstate driving, it doesn't really absorb the bumps as well as my 2002 with Rancho 9000 shocks. Cruising at higher speed, and with sharp curves, the driving experience was subpar overall. I also get "pop" feel when turning sharp corner at moderate speed, but at slow speed, I don't feel anything off the ordinary.
Wondering if all that will go away with better shocks such as Rancho 5000/9000 upgrade? I just hit the 30K mark during the trip.
I've heard great thing from the SuperDuty and Excursion guys about the Rancho 9000s. I had 5000s on an Explorer and they were too firm for my liking. I don't think that Expl. weighed enough for that setup.
I'm personally going to look hard into Bilstein 5100s when it comes time to replace the factory shocks.
