What transfer case should I use for a divorced set up with my E40D tranny? Don't want to make a lot of changes to the current driveline in my F-350 crew cab dually. Not if I can help it. Thanks
There is no way you can use a divorced transfer case without major driveline modifications. Crossmember mount for the transfer case, shortened driveshaft for the rear, longer one for the front, custom shifter linkage, etc. I believe the only divorced transfer case to use is the geared one from a 70's pickup.
If you are trying to convert the truck to a 4x4, it would be much easier to buy a donor f250/350 4x4 and swap everything over, including the tranny. Everything will bolt in if you get the same wheelbase truck with some modifications to the front frame area.
My buddy did it some years ago, 2wd CC dually, got an F350 donor and used an NP205 in a custom cross member mount from a 76 F250. I may be wrong but the 76 t-case shifter fit on the E4OD somehow and he made shift rods. All the holes and everything were there for the leaf springs but he used a shakle reversal from ORU. By going divorced he did not have to mess with the speedo, the shifter fot the t-case will be the only real hurdle.
Thanks for the info. I actually have a NP205 from a donor drive train. The hole for the shifter is already in the tranny tunnel with a patch over it. I pulled back the carpet and there it was. Hopefully I can make it work.
