Hooking up running boards with light.

A friend on mine got some running boards with light in them. Where do you go about splicing into another wire to make them come on with the dome light. When the door opens and everything. What color wire and where is it located? The closest to splice into. The vehicle its going on is a 2003 F150 SuperCrew.

Hooking up running boards with light.

Why would he want them to come on when the dome light is on
instead of with the running lights ?

Unless of course it will be used to illuminate the top of the running boards for someone to see them before stepping on them.

The dome light wire is behind the left side of the dash.

The wiring for the running lights is down along the column.

Thanks for the help. I will tell him. I think he wants it to light up to see before stepping on them. Like the Expeditions. When you open the door I think they light up.

Okay, he could wire them in with the courtesy lights or with a relay signal from the courtesy lights depending on the amount and intensity of the running board lights.
