I need to get inspected and have a check eng light that comes on about 1/2 - 1 mile of driving. If I shut off the truck for a few seconds to a minute it goes out but will quickly come back on once driving. My question is I dont have obd 1 or 2 ports. I have the eec-iv plug. I was told that they cannot hook that up to the computer and as long as I dont have puffs of smoke they will pass that part of it even though the light is (may be) on. does anyone know if this is the case or not??
Ford Fuel Injection » How To Run a Self-Test Here is how to get the trouble code/s. Or you could buy an Equus 3145 code reader for around $30.00 to make life easier.
If you had the codes you could fix what`s wrong and have no light on.
I bought the reader but it malfuntioned and returned it and I know there is a way to do it without the meter by counting the flashes after you have grounded the plug and ran wires correctly. As I do want to know why it is on and fix it, I NEED to get it inspected soon so I can continue to go to the parts store to continue to work on it. My question is will they "exempt" me from the computer reading?
