I know there has been talk on here about swaping the 08-10 consoles with the new 2011 flow through console but I cant seem to find hardly any info when I do a search. Is there a good thread on this or has anyone actually done a swap?
This has been discussing in the super duty forum above. To date no one that I know of has attempted. I would like to know as well though. Having the extra space would be nice.
Well if anyone would like to know the 2011 flow-through console does fit in the 08-10 trucks. I installed one in mine yesterday with very little modifiying. Looks great but its going to take a little time to get used the dark color instead of the tan im used to seeing.
Total cost for me was $50. I got a brand new console for free with all the brackets. Just had to buy the dash trim that fits around the console for under the brake control and uplifter switches. The front bracket on the new console is direct bolt up using the existing holes from the cup holder. Did not use the middle and rear bracket as they do not line up with any thing. Ford changed the seat bolt pattern on the 2011 so the rear bracket does not line up with the seat bolts and the middle bracket was to tall to use. I wasn't crazy about drilling new holes in my floor so I used the existing rear bracket. I will try to post some pictures tonight along with the part number for the dash trim you will need.
Yea, the pics would be great, really interested in this one. I like the console in my 08 but yet, more efficient space use would be better. Looking forward to pics.
I know this reply is way over due since June, and I apologise for that but here are some pictures of the console swap. I think the link below will take you to my albums. I have had the 2011 console in since June and the install has held up with no problems at all. Been on many trips, kids climbing on it (which they know better) and it is still nice and tight, no rattles or squeaks. I still have not ordered the trim peice that fits around the front of the console yet but its on my list to do. I hope by next week I can order it and the airflow peice to get air to the rear and work on that. Ill let yall know if I can get it hooked up. By the way I think this is the best mod I have ever done to one of my trucks. You couldnt pay me to get rid of it. The extra cup holders and space is nice.
I'm with ya' on that one. Manual transfer case is the only way to go.
I'm not so fixated on a manual lever for the t-case. It's exactly the same t-case either way, and any incident that could damage the motor drive could just as easily damage the manual linkage.
In a real pinch you can just remove the motor drive and turn the shaft with a pair of vice grips little different than you would have to do with a damaged manual linkage.
For those who have installed the newer console, did you hook up the HVAC vents or the inverter outlet?

the only reason I say that is because every single one of those ESFs I've ever had has seized up on me. Leaving me stuck both out of and in 4WD.
