My truck has a 351m with an Edelbrock Intake, 4-barrel Holley, Headers, and Cherry Bomb exhausts on it. I've been curious for a while how much hp my dent has. Anyone have a rough estimate? I've searched the forums couldn't find much info.
If the engine still has the factory timing chain/gears and camshaft, it's not going to make near the power it *could* make. The stock stuff was more aimed at passing smog tests than making good power.
The stuff you listed helps, but not nearly as much as a cam and non-smog rated chain/gears. The gears by themselves help, but a better cam will make a much bigger improvement. Best of all, the MPG doesn't really change much, once the novelty of the extra power wears off and you return to driving it a more "normal-ish" manner......

Is this one of those engines Ford retarded the cam by like 6 to 10 degrees in an effort to appease OPEC back in the day? I know Ford did this to the 429/460 family for a number of years....
I'd say with the equipment you added and if the engine was in good running condition before, you maybe gained 35 to 40 rwhp, maybe....
Not real concerned if it gained less horsepower than I thought or anything like that I bought the truck with most of this done already. I wasn't expecting someone to say I have 300hp with these mods. Just curious that's all.
