351c with torker intake 4v closed chamber heads. New edelbrock carb, new plugs, new wires, malory hei distributor, high volume mechanical fuel pump.
I had a holley carb and it idled fine but stumbled under load. Pulled it off and put a new elelbrock carb and there is no change. Idles fine but when I attempt to drive it stumbles. I bought this engine rebuilt and have put 161 miles on it. Bought from an individual so there is no warranty or return. I have no idea whats going on so any help is appreciated. Could I be running on 6 or 7 cylinders under idle and once those cylinders are actually needed its just not enough to move my truck fast? I filled it up with premium fuel so I don't think octane is the issue. With the holley on it would blow liquid out of both sides of the exhaust. I thought maybe it was dumping too much fuel and that is a major reason I put on the edelbrock yesterday. Prior to putting the valve covers and intake on the engine all the valves moves easily when hand rotating the engine so I don't think I have a stuck valve issue.
Might be a distributor doing something weird. Do you have 12+ volts to the coil? ran into this with a older bronco once and a resistor wire situation. catch you later and will check back in later.
I'm thinking of getting a compression tester just in case. It ran fine in the beginning (last year). It was in storage for almost a year so I'm going to go ahead and drain the gas tank even though most of the fuel in it now is new. Just in case its a gas issue.
My wife thought she was going to die when I asked her to hold a plug wire with a plug in it and watch for a spark. Needless to say, it had spark.
